It seems that everyone loves a small fluffy dog! And why not? Small fluffy dogs are cute, cuddly, and usually very loving. There is no shortage of these dogs in the world Here is a look at some of the fluffy dogs, on the small side, that you might want to consider as a pet.

Shih Tzu

The Shih Tzu is an extremely old breed, dating back to the time of the ancient Chinese emperors. They may have originally been a cross between the Lhasa Apso and the Pekingese. They were only brought to the West by English soldiers in the second World War. They have become very popular in recent years. They stand about 8 to 11 inches tall and weigh between 9 and 16 pounds. They have beautiful long, flowing hair.

Toy Poodle

The Toy Poodle is one of the varieties of the Poodle breed. The Poodle was originally a German breed, used for water retrieving (pudel means “to splash” in German) but the breed was quickly taken up by the French. Toy Poodles were later used for truffle hunting and as circus dogs because they were so smart and easy to train. The Toy Poodle is very popular today. They stand 10 inches tall at the shoulder or less. Poodles can be kept in a variety of clips though a pet clip is usually the easiest way of grooming these dogs for the pet owner. This allows the hair to be short and curly all over. A Toy Poodle is an excellent choice for someone with allergies as they do not shed much and are considered “hypoallergenic.”

The Pomeranian is a cheerful, confident little dog who is completely outgoing. These dogs are quite active and alert. They originally weighed up to 30 pounds but today they weigh between 3 and 7 pounds. They are very intelligent and love to make their owners happy. They do have quite a bit of hair and need a great deal of grooming. In some countries they are considered a member of the Spitz family of dogs.

The beautiful and graceful Maltese is usually considered one of the most elegant dogs in the world. These dogs have long, flowing white coats that need considerable grooming if you keep them long. However, some owners prefer to cut the coats short. The Maltese is a gentle and affectionate companion, although they can also be very playful and lively. Owners say these dogs are also intelligent and brave. This dog has been known for nearly 3000 years. The Maltese weighs between 4 and 6 pounds.

Bichon Frise

The Bichon Frise is a happy, friendly dog who is extremely intelligent. They are gentle and playful. The breed is solid white with a single layer coat which makes them a good choice for people with allergies. They do not shed. The Bichon makes a very good family dog, especially if you have children who are gentle with dogs. They stand around 9.5 and 11.5 inches tall at the shoulder.

The Havanese is known as the national dog of Cuba. They are quite friendly and intelligent and known for being sturdy little dogs. They are thought to have been brought to Cuba from Spain and are probably related to the Bichon and possibly the Poodle. Like those breeds, their coat doesn’t shed. They have been lap dogs of the aristocracy and also used as watchdogs and herding dogs in Cuba. They do need regular exercise. The Havanese stands between 8.5 and 11.5 inches tall at the shoulder.

The breeds discussed here are all fluffy dogs you might consider if you are thinking of getting a small dog. All of these breeds make wonderful pets and they are quite popular. They are all intelligent, loving, and devoted to their owners, as well as being playful. Any one of them would make a wonderful choice.
